Race report from Julian:

"A very wet day, although the rain was not too heavy whilst we were running the race.  It had just been raining for most of the last 24 hours so everywhere was very wet underfoot.

An eventful night with 4 Striders arriving really late at the race start in Helmshore near Haslingden.  One Strider due to an obsession with applying Vaseline, even though he was already late (so he could slip through the field perhaps) and not appreciating that he was still over ¾ mile from the race start, arrived at the start well after the runners had all departed.  Luckily for him this unnamed postman did manage to catch 17 of the 139 runners if only so that he knew which way to go.

Another Strider locked his keys in his brand new car, but before he had finished getting changed to run.  Thus Neville had to save the day again and shuttle the unfortunate back home and then back again with the spare keys!  In the end two Striders (Geoff and Neville) won prizes.

I stayed to collect the prizes and chose a waterproof for Geoff Hand so that next time he has a coat to wear if he locks his keys in his car.

Four of the late arrivals (aged 65+, 55+,50+ and 40+) attempted to enter the junior race until they were rumbled and made to run the adults race according to my reliable source!"
