Cross country leagues

Spectrum Striders takes part in two cross country leagues:

  • the North West Sunday Cross Country League
  • the Liverpool & District  Cross Country League

For both leagues, the club pays entry fees so it is free for you to run.

All races in these two leagues are included in the Spectrum Striders RC Cross Country & Multi-terrain Race Championship.

North West Sunday Cross Country League (NWSCCL)

You don't need to register or pre-enter for races in this league, just turn up and run!  Remember, even if you are not a counting runner, you can still push other clubs runners down the finishers list and increase the other club's score, so you do make a difference to the result.  It's free to enter and you get free butties & a cup of tea after!

This league is not just for the faster runner.  The races are all about 4½ to 5 miles long.

It would help if you would let Julian or the cross country captain know if you are intending to come so that we have a good idea of numbers as we need to ensure that we have a full ladies and men's team.

Remember that it is compulsory to wear your club vest.  Also you must be a first claim runner for your club.  If you run as second claim or as a guest, please use a running top that will not be confused with any the competing clubs.  Also, as a guest you may be asked to make a small contribution to the cost of refreshments.

At the finish, the organisers hand out a cloakroom ticket to each runner showing in which position you finished.  You then hand this to a representative from your club who will note your name and take the ticket.

For 2012, Lymm Runners and Liverpool Running Bugs! have joined the league, and Ford Halewood no longer take part.

Several of the smaller clubs combine teams to make them more competitive.  The following clubs take part in the league in 2012:

  • Spectrum Striders RC
  • Liverpool RC
  • Penny Lane Striders
  • Newburgh Nomads RC (mens team only)
  • Liverpool Running Bugs!/Roby Runners/Picton RC
  • Pensby Runners/Birkenhead AC
  • Skelmersdale Boundary Harriers/Parbold Pink Panthers
  • Warrington Road Runners/Helsby RC/Lymm Runners

Past results for the league are on Steve Saunders' web site.  Go to the site and click on "X-country".

Liverpool & District Cross Country League (L&D League)

This league is generally of a higher standard than the NWSCCL and the races are a little longer.  It is still a team competition but unlike the NWSCCL the men & women are part of the same team.

For these races, you also need to be a first claim member of the club.  Also, there is no entry on the day.  You need to enter in advance via the cross country captain or Julian.

The league usually has three races before Christmas and a fourth race, the L&D League Championship, after Christmas.
