Well done to the Striders who took part at Alton Towers. The course was muddy and the spectator areas were even muddier! Due to course conditions & safety concerns, the courses were shortened.
Full results are available on the English Cross Country Association web site:
Some photos taken by Les Hewitt & Mick Charman are available here.
Many thanks to Julian Spencer for doing the entries & trying to make sure we had teams, also to Les Hewitt for Team Manager & kit man duties on the day.
Here is a race report from Julian:
"None of us have ever run a cross country that was as muddy. It was tough out there today. Only on the steep hills was there a little less mud. For the runners it was really hard to find a good running line. The spectator areas were even more slippery than out of the course, so you needed spikes or studs to just walk around.
The courses were shortened by 2k perhaps as the course was so muddy." [There were several injuries on the day but they were not as serious as the rumours suggested! - Les].

The 2011 Championships was held at Alton Towers, ST10 4DB. This event is organised by the English Cross Country Association.
This is one of the classic events in the UK athletics calendar with its memorable mass start. It has been won by some of the great names in British athletics. The mens race was first run in 1876, women in 1927.
Entry is only in advance via your running club and there are no entries on the day.
You must be registered with England Athletics to take part and you must wear your club vest in the race or you will be disqualified. The race will have chip timing. Numbers and timing chips will be collected by the Team Manager on the day.

Race report from Julian:"For the first time ever we fielded an U17 mens team at the Nationals on the challenging Leeds Roundhay Park course. I hope they enjoyed the event.
The ladies team on the day had only 2 runners, so was an incomplete team. The men managed 8 finishers and beat arch rivals Liverpool Running Club; they were 75th compared to our 72nd position in the 107 complete teams. It was great to be part of a race along with 1328 other cross-country addicts. To ensure Alan Peers was on the start line on time we got Neville and Geoff Hand to deliver him."
