About Brainwave

Brainwave was established in 1982 in Bridgwater, Somerset and in 2009 it opened its third Centre in Birchwood, Warrington which has provided much easier access for families from Cheshire and surrounding areas.  The new Centre boasts two therapy rooms, a family room with a kitchen and a state of the art sensory room with an interactive floor.

The Charity works with families to deliver individual, home based therapy and exercises for children with disabilities and Development Delay to reach their full potential.  This can be anything from walking to recognising numbers.  Brainwave looks after a whole range of children with conditions including Cerebral Palsy, Down’s Syndrome and Autism.

If you can help Brainwave in any way, either as a business wanting to adopt us as your Charity Of The Year, or as an individual interested in doing a sponsored walk, 10k run or parachute jump, or would simply some like further information and an opportunity to visit the Warrington Centre, then contact Joanne Freeman, Community Manager on 07872 411580

2010 Dash on Sunday 12-Dec-2010 at 10am

The 2010 Brainwave Santa Dash 5k took place on a cold sunny day in Birchwood.

Over 300 "Santas" (not including the real one... Laughing) dashed around 5k of paths in Birchwood Forest Park.  The route was based on the Spectrum Striders Ladies 5k Race course, modified so the start and finish was at the Peacock Pub at the Birchwood Shopping Centre.

Many thanks to all who helped on the day, including Birchwood Lions, 10 members of Spectrum Striders and students from Chester University.  Particular thanks to Spectrum Strider Brian Tuohey who had the vital role on the day of Chief Marshal and to Bill Bradley (Striders Newsletter Editor) for finalising the course.

Brian is also a local photographer, and took photos of the event.  His photos are now available on his web site - click here to see them.

2010 Santa Dash information

Join in the Brainwave Santa Dash sponsored by Birchwood Shopping Centre. The event starts at the Birchwood Shopping Centre.

This family friendly event is guaranteed to get you into the festive spirit.  You can run, jog or walk all the way round a 5k route starting from Birchwood Shopping Centre, passing through Risley Moss Park and returning to the Shopping Centre for a well deserved drink with some live jazz at the Peacock Pub, where the finish line awaits.  It’s all about having fun and helping to raise funds towards Brainwave’s new centre in Birchwood, Warrington.

The 5k run is open to all adults and children, and is supported by the Warrington Guardian.  Warrington-based sports company ASICS will be providing all Dashers with a goody bag and Wire FM will be playing festive hits on the day along with a live outside broadcast.

Family entertainment including face painting will be on offer together with the opportunity to purchase some great Christmas Gifts in the Birchwood Shopping Centre.  There will also be a Santa Jive warm up and spot prizes for best costumes on the day for individual, child and best corporate team.

Gary Jones, Birchwood Shopping Centre Manager, said:
"We are absolutely delighted to be sponsoring the Santa Dash and we hope all local businesses, Birchwood Forum members and families in the community take part in supporting this very worthy childrens charity that transforms disabled children’s lives and offers them hope for their future."

The route is mainly away from roads, on footpaths near the Birchwood Shopping Centre, Birchwood Brook Park and Birchwood Forest Park.
